From the stratospheric nightly rates, one might assume that Key West hotels and motels are thickly plated with pure gold and inject bits of caviar into the little shampoo bottles. Nope, that’s not the case. True, it is expensive and seems to be a fact of life down here in the Florida Keys that you need to be a third world dictator who has recently absconded with the entire national treasury to afford lodging in our fair part of the world.

Yes, you can log onto the standard third party site like Travelocity or Hotwire and find decent prices on hotel rooms, car rental, and airfare. The problem, as I see it, is that I’ve never found prices on those sites that get me excited. Yeah, it’s fine to save 5-10% and I’ll take it but where are the really good deals?
