If you live near the offices of the whitewater company (also known as “outfitters”) that you are planning on traveling with; visit them. Talk to them face-to-face. Scope out their offices, personnel, and equipment. An outfitter’s office space can reveal much about the company. Are they a mom-and-pop operation that works out of their home? Does the company have a bona fide building with space dedicated to proper equipment storage and administrative space? Bigger doesn’t always mean better but having an office space outside the home does indicate a level of professionalism…and financial solvency.

Port Seguro, Brazil – A Portal To So Many New Worlds

As a single young mother of a 2yr old son and traveling alone. I set out with some apprehension on my journey to the North East Coast of Brazil and a place called Porto Seguro, which by the way means safe port in English.

My first impression on arriving was one of comfort as I had been harboring a nervous fear that I had kept hidden from friends and family for fear they would try to discourage my adventurous spirit.
