If you live near the offices of the whitewater company (also known as “outfitters”) that you are planning on traveling with; visit them. Talk to them face-to-face. Scope out their offices, personnel, and equipment. An outfitter’s office space can reveal much about the company. Are they a mom-and-pop operation that works out of their home? Does the company have a bona fide building with space dedicated to proper equipment storage and administrative space? Bigger doesn’t always mean better but having an office space outside the home does indicate a level of professionalism…and financial solvency.
